CBD For Blood Pressure – An Effective Natural Approach?
Every day the world is becoming an interesting place to live in. New inventions, breakthroughs not just in the field of science but also art, medicine, pharmacology, and everything else. However, not everything is accepted readily just like CBD or Cannabidiol. People have many misconceptions about it and restrict themselves from reaping its benefits.
So there are some recent suggestions that CBD can be helpful to deal with many ailments including chronic pain. This blog will analyze the role of CBD in dealing with high or low blood pressure so that you can make an informed decision.
What is Blood pressure?
We know the meaning of those two words separately but what can the two mean together? Our heart has the gigantic task of circulating blood into and out of the body with the help of veins and arteries. So the rate at which the blood moves up and down its walls is called to be blood pressure.
Now there are two kinds of pressure-Systolic and diastolic. While the former is the highest rate of pressure the latter goes with the lower rate. An average person is said to have a pressure of 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg. An increase or decrease in the following is known as high or low blood pressure.
What is CBD or Cannabidiol?
Contradictory to popular thought, CBD is not weed. It can be described as one of the several synthetics that are found in the mother plant. Unlike THC, which is the reason for the intoxication caused by smoking it, CBD has no intoxicating properties and is only used for medicinal purposes. This includes treating an array of ailments like Epilepsy, Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, and many more.
CBD for blood pressure
The whole world is grappling with the hold of blood pressure. In most cases, high blood pressure leads to life-threatening cardiovascular diseases. Now coming back to our topic, CBD has no direct connection to blood pressure. Patients suffering from high blood pressure are given medicines that can help the blood vessels expand. Researchers did find that using CBD can alter some of the brain functions to alleviate many maladies. However, there are no actual shreds of evidence to support this proposition. So why are there several people who believe it works?
Doctors say that CBD enters our bodies and mixes with our Endocannabinoid system which has the power to control many functions. With it mingling in CB1 and CB2 receptors, it can alter our hunger, mood, sleep, physical activity, and pain. When such a vast change is seen in the body, our brain can be at ease and therefore lower blood pressure. Moreover, in a study by Khalid Jadoon called “A single dose of CBD reduces blood pressure”, over 9 males were administered 600 mg of CBD which led to their blood pressure plummeting.
However, the following is also called to be the placebo effect since other studies do not corroborate it. When it comes to the safety of these drugs, there are numerous controversies as well. Generally regarded to be safe, it is not directly prescribed by doctors to treat blood pressure issues. Taken in the form of oils or edibles, the FDA is yet to approve it to maintain steady pressure.
What are the side effects of taking CBD for blood pressure?
Like pretty much all medicines, CBD also has several side effects which can affect you. These could be –
1. Paranoia: Having mild hallucinations and mind-altering thoughts.
2. Running stomach: Abdominal pain with dysentery.
3. Loss of appetite: This can give birth to many other fatal diseases including headaches and nausea.
4. Fluctuations in weight: It could be loss or gain.
5. Tiredness: Again due to all the above conditions one can be low on energy.
6. Mixing up: This happens when people on CBD take other medications which can lead to the flaring up of other underlying conditions.
When should you not use CBD for blood pressure?
There are many body conditions when you should avoid CBD at all costs. They are-
1. When you are pregnant
2. When you are feeding your baby
3. When you are on other complex medications
4. When you have been having liver problems
5. When you don’t have a proper prescription
What are the other ways to control blood pressure?
1. A nutritious diet minus Carbs or unsaturated fats.
2. Working out and physical activity.
3. Following a more on-feet lifestyle.
4. Medications that are prescribed by doctors(FDA approved)
5. Don’t indulge in substance abuse including smoking and alcohol.
New studies show how CBD can be protecting our bodies from many diseases. But blood pressure is not one of them. Until further research, it might be a good idea to go with the standard medications and changes in routines.
