What causes nerve pain :

There are several causes as to why nerve pain or neuralgia occurs. These include :

Kidney problems – When the kidneys are not properly clearing out toxins from the body, it can have a ripple effect on the nervous system.

Diabetes – It can cause nerve damage throughout the body. Approximately 2 out of every 3 diabetes sufferers have some form of nerve pain.

Infections – Nerve pain can also be caused by certain kinds of infections. Shingles, which cause a painful skin eruption, are an example.

Porphyria – This is an umbrella term for a group of disorders affecting the nervous system. Porphyria is the inability of the body to make a sufficient amount of a certain enzyme, which result may cause nerve pain.

Pressure – Cancer tumors also sometimes cause pressure on nerves. Cancer cells are mainly originated from malignant tumors, the ones that burst open after a certain period of time and introduce the malignant cells into the bloodstream. Sometimes inflammation causes pressure on nerves too, which can result in pain.

Injury – Nerve pain can also occur from an injury. Typically this happens due to overuse of a body part, poor or unchanging posture over long periods of time, a blow, or trauma of some kind. This can be the result of a fall, accident, or even surgery.

Treatments:

As with all medical conditions, treatment usually depends on the cause of the pain. Unfortunately, in cases of nerve pain, this can sometimes be very difficult to identify. There are some home remedies that you can follow in order to mitigate the pain. However, if the pain worsens, you must consult your health care provider regarding which course of treatment will suit you best.

Here are some of the most effective treatments for nerve pain.

✔Surgery is appropriate in cases where a tumor is present or when there is some other obstruction affecting the nerve.

✔You need to strictly control your blood sugar level. Higher blood sugar can cause numbness, irritation, or even constant pain in the nerves all over the body.

✔Medications may help in controlling pain if the condition becomes severe. These may include anti-depressants, anti-seizure medications, mild over-the-counter pain relievers, prescription painkillers like codeine or topical creams.

✔Physical therapy also helps if there is a  possibility for certain types of physical damage. Physical therapists can teach you some exercises that give the best result with minimal effort. There are even some cases where the patients managed to recover completely only by doing physical therapy.

✔A proper diet is a must. You may have to consult a nutritionist in order to have a diet chart that addresses the pain as well as gives proper nutrients to your body in an adequate amount. Do not consume foods that come filled with saturated and trans fat. Limit your daily carbs and salt intake because they can cause inflammation and swelling of the joints. Also, drink plenty of water.

✔There are some recreational drugs that calm the nerves, such as opioids, cannabis, or hemp. But you should always control the amount that you are taking. Over-consumption of these drugs may lead to dependency on them. Furthermore, if you consume alcohol or smoke on a regular basis, it can make the problem more severe.

✔Nerve pain is directly related to some stimulants. Maybe there is a tick or a certain noise that irritates you and worsens the pain. If the problem is unavoidable, you should always be cautious about how to cope with it. Also, over-exposure to stimulants can make the nerves easier to get irritated over time.

Conclusion :

When dealing with nerve pain, it is best to keep in mind that recovery and freedom from pain can be a long and complicated process. This is why it is advised to keep your mental health in check. Any kind of psychological breakdown can affect the pain and the healing process simultaneously.
